19 Years Of Hit Music - 1971

Richard Clemmons has more details on the "19 Years Of Hot Music":

Thanks for the post on "Archive." It was 37 years ago I wrote and put that program together. I'm surprised that is the one that stuck around. "Hitmakers" was the update used several years after "19 years." Forgive my old memory but the announcer on "19 years" didn't change at all. I did the voicing on "Hitmakers" and may my friend Fred Miles Watson forgive me, he is the voice...the original voice...on "19 Years." I just plain forgot. FYI Sandy Dellar was the dependent wife of an Air Force Seargent. She worked with us in the newsroom as the TV weatherperson and some radio news. Ron Joyce was our then radio newscaster, John Lynn was the news director, Charlie Kemplin edited the one munute montages previewing the upcoming year and Gene Picket was my boss. Having always been a "Oldies" fan, I came up with this idea of a year ender and Gene said go. The rest was nearly endless hours of writing, getting the others involved in the mania so they too would write, and it all came together. I'm amazed you found the original "19 Years of Hit Music. It's great to hear it again. Even I never kept that one. I do, however, have all the "Hitmakers" tapes and "The Golden Age of the Beatles."

Hi Mary, Thank you for the kind words. Just wanted to let you and the others who frequent this amazing website, that Thom and I are working to bring you the "Golden Age Of The Beatles" in the very near future. I'm doing the transfers now. "The Hitmakers" will follow the Beatles. I'll continue to add information about all three productions I did while at AFPN. I also have an early (1970) aircheck from AFPN Subic Bay. The story that accompanies the aircheck is worth reading. It's nice to know there is an interet in the production so many years after their inception.

Nope, it wasn't Fred Miles... I did the voice work on "19 Years" and it really hurts to think that you forgot my name... (heh heh).

Wow! Just happened to Google "AFPN" and saw the link to the "19 Years" online... played it for my classrooms - I'm teaching, now, at a suburban high school near Fort Worth, Texas. Some of y'all might remember my wife, Pamela, from back at Clark. She worked for the Base Education office doing the PREP High School Equivalency program - she and I are still together, just celebrated 40 years. One son, now one daughter-in-law with a 4 year old granddaughter and a new grandson living nearby.

I've still got a set of the 7" reels of tape - probably have some carts from AFPN as well if someone has a machine to play them on. Anyone have a tape machine to play the big reels (10")?

Anyway - glad to run across this blog - will have to be reading all the back issues.

When I last talked with Fred Miles, he mentioned that Russ Casey had died. I guess we're all getting up there in age, huh?

Right you are Wayne. I actually had already figured it out. Thanks for catching that. Just hadn't corrected it yet. Fred did the announcing, you were the voice, John Lynn did the news inserts. Just to let everyone know, Ron Joyce passed away July 10, 2011. We are obviously getting older. Shame though, Ron was only 59. He will be missed as will Russ Casey. Thank you everyone for your continued interest in these shows and thank you Wayne Day!
