Singing legend Bill Withers backstage at the Greek Theatre with Charlie.(June 16, 2007)
Charlie Tuna taught a lot of DJs how to do it right, pacing, topicality, personality. Every day it was a textbook.
The American Forces Radio and Television service touched a lot of people. Whether talent, support or listeners it touched a lot of us in ways that stateside media could only dream of. It was more than just the radio, it was home. Each of us have a piece of what it meant. Together it tells a story. Thank you for your contributions. Sometimes it's audio, pictures or memorabilia. This can be a good place to share it. What was your story? If you find this rewarding, please tell a friend.
nice posting.. thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteDang! I worked with Charlie at FEN in the P.I. '76 and '77. I'll never forget a "slip" he made on the morning drive program, during the fuel shortage, invoking a word he really only meant to use with myself and Mark Malinowski (in the studio at the time). Heck of a talent, Mr. Tuna was and sounds like - still is.
