Andy Mansfield 1963
In 1963 it really hadn't been that long since we lost MAJ Glenn Miller during WWII. Glenn entertained the troops and cut a lot of exclusive music for AFRS and V Disc. Andy Mansfield did a five part tribute.

AFKN Park Chung Hee shot 1979
I started in Yongsan in the newsroom. If any story mentioned Korea, it had to be cleared by the 8th Army/UN Command PAO. Send the story over, wait a few weeks and maybe it can be read... or just don't run it in the first place. Compare that to this 1979 aircheck when President Park Chung Hee was assassinated.

Roland Bynum 1980
The Detroit born Roland first got to Los Angeles in 1967 at KGFJ to replace the "Magnificent Montague" eventually rising to Program Director. 1998 started a long run at Stevie Wonder's KJLH. Time for a "good Bynum". Roland is back with memories of 1980.

Chris Noel 1969
Chris began in show business in Mister Roberts on stage with Hugh O'Brien, then kept very busy.
Chris's filmography from imdb Working with Elvis and being in Soldier In the Rain, incredible. Starting in 1966 AFRTS got Chris in "A Date With Chris", a pretty incredible piece of radio.
She's also been a prolific writer. Her latest book is about filming "Cease Fire" with Don Johnson. Click Here

Ira Cook 1961
In the early 1960s, they weren't really recording at McCadden. Recordings were done at the stations, usually but it was haphazard. Here's Ira Cook recorded at KMPC in 1961.
IRA LEIGH COOK Passed away on May 15, 2007 at the age of 90. Ira was a disc jockey in Hollywood for over 25 years working at KMPC the majority of the time. He also broadcast over the Armed Forces Radio Services. He was a beloved husband of Virginia for 58 years who predeceased him.

"Would you like some tape from the Guam station?" AFRS Guam was there in 1944. Radioman Cousin Mike held down the fort on the "Night Beat". I believe that's from the Naval Communication Station at Finegayan, Guam.

Harry Von Zell 1944
