Talk about a voice. John Doremus was an Easy listening giant. In the states he was probably the first voice of music in flight. Had nightly radio shows on the biggest AM stations for the airlines, and did his show for AFRTS. Music for the dinner hour...
Amazing set of pipes and smooth. John Doremus had evening music for many years. Similar to what Jim Ameche did earlier and what Pete Smith did later but smoother and bigger. He had recorded Music Through the Night shows sponsored by the airlines that ran on the biggest AM clear channel stations in the country. He also was the one that started syndicating in flight music.
Been a long time since we had a visit with John Doremus. John was the big voice of soft music after Jim Ameche and before Pete Smith. He recorded a bunch of PSAs for us that we were using many years after. He was the one that brought music to air travel. He hosted a nationwide program of soft muisc on the BIG AM stations in the 60s. Big talent.
What an incredible voice. Mr Doremus began this style of late night radio on WMAQ Chicago and syndicated on the BIG stations. He also 'invented' in flight music.

I remember John Doremus and his overnight show, syndicated on some of the biggest AMs in the states, when there was such a thing. In flight music, without the flight. We had him on AFRTS.
I found some complete 1967 John Doremus shows. John originated in-flight music on aircraft and did a nighttime show in Chicago that was eventually syndicated by the airlines to a lot of stations. John was one of the giants of broadcasting in general and to AFRTS in particular
The theme is songs about movement, a seemingly straightforward idea. John would skillfully blend these songs with poetry and concepts. His shows gained popularity nationwide, particularly with major airlines, where he pioneered the production of in-flight music. A truly remarkable talent.
Must be the dinner hour. John Doremus would create a mood. There were few who could really do this. John was also the one that came up with the idea for music on your airplane rides. Amazing talent.
