Chuck Cecil 1979

Chuck Cecil is back with the Big band Countdown.  This time looking at 1939.  Seems ancient now but when this aired in 1979 it was music of 40 years ago. Yikes.  Chuck also did "The Swingin Years"  Great radio, take a listen.  After the show we check into the AFN newsroom.

Chuck Cecil Big Band Countdown 1979

Chuck Cecil started playing the music of "The Swingin Years"s on KFI in the late 50s.  Those oldies were popular and he was on AFRTS in 1960.  On the Big Band Countdown, Chuck would pick a time and Count 'em down.  The show ran well into the 1980s.

Chuck Cecil 1983

Chuck Cecil has a special Swingin Years.  Today it's airchecks of the bands performing live.

Chuck Cecil had a quarter century run with the music of the 1930s-50s.  That sounds like such a long time ago but then it was the best memories of 30 years ago.  This year Chuck retired.  The Swingin Years had been a feature of Los Angeles radio for six decades...

Chuck Cecil 1961

In the late 1950s Chuck Cecil was doing an oldies show on KFI.  "The Swingin' Years" spotlighted the hits of the 30s and 40s.  It was picked up by AFRTS and was still running well into the 1980s.  Chuck was still doing the show in 2010s on a public station in Los Angeles although he was retired.  Quite a run, a bit of fun, The swingin' years...

Swingin' Years 1961

Chuck Cecil did the Swingin' Years for a long long time.  In the late 1950s he started the show at KFI and eventually brought it over to AFRTS.  A quarter of a century later it was still going strong.

"It's a beautiful day in southern California!".

Chuck Cecil - 1978

Chuck Cecil celebrated the bigband years starting in the 1950s on Los Angeles radio.  By 1973 he was syndicated all over the United States and was doing the Big Band Countdown for AFRTS.

Lets take a look at the greatest hits of June 1942.

The aircheck is from AFN Frankfurt.  After the show, Paul Mako has a look at news.  The Shah of Iran had been kicked out of the country, what's next?

Chuck Cecil 1979

Chuck Cecil was playing the big band oldies around Los Angeles by the 1950s.  He got it on KFI, syndicated it and ran it for decades.  We were pretty lucky to have it so long on AFRTS.
