We weren't really rigged to do sports talk shows.  Over the years Fred Hessler from KMPC recorded Sports feature shows.  Let's take a look at 1967.

Fred Hessler was with an AFRS station during WWII.  After the war did a lot of sports in Los Angeles, eventually ending up the voice of UCLA football.  Here's an early 50s interview show.

Sports Reel - Fred Hessler 1968

  

 

At one time presenting live news and sports was much more difficult than now.  There was a market for interview shows that provided context. 

 

Fred Hessler was the voice of UCLA football for 25 years but before that was one of us.  During WWII he was with AFRS at an unknown station but after that went to the network as a civilian for about 10 years.  In 1954 he did Sports Forum, an interview show.

He also worked at KMPC 1953-83

In 1968 he was still at it with "Sports Reel"
