Iceland - 1992 "SnowSnakes"

Just saw the blog. Great collection of old memories.
Here's one for you:

A short PSA we did warning our viewers about black ice. The video was written/directed and edited by PH1 Frank Pratt. Starring myself (JO2 J. Patrick Smith) and JO2 Gerard Johnson. I'm the one seated at the beginning of the video.

The video was shot at the NBS Keflavik Det 8 quonset hut (actually two quonset huts that were linked together). The interior shots are in the supply office. Exterior shots show the front entry to the building.

The external shots were taken after a fresh snowfall so that when I would "slip" there was plenty of fresh snow to break my fall.

AFRS Keflevik 1998

Larus sent this along:

Okay 6 minutes [EDIT 9 mins. past midnight 2015] to the new year and I'm sitting here with my frightened dog, and the Icelanders, who are usually big spenders on firecrackers, are going berserk!
BTW That word: berserk comes into English from the Icelandic!

I'm going to upload for you on my Dropbox an old HIFI STEREO off-air VHS recording of the Navy Broadcasting Service, Keflavik, Iceland and it's THE MORNING SHOW, unfortunately the lady never mentions her name in the recording, but I think Thomas Jones may help with that.

And, oh, yeah this is recorded from the stations FM broadcast channel, in Reykjavik, Niceland.

AFRS Iceland Karl Phillips 1971

Karl Phillips sent in more airchecks from Kevlevik.

"Before I joined the Navy in 1970 I was a part time gofer at WQXI 790 in Atlanta where I learned ratio from some of the greats...Skinny Bobby Harper...Randy Robins (who is still a close friend here in the Atlanta area) ..Bob Bolton, Barry Chase. Went into Navy and went to Iceland as first duty station. Found my way to the quanset hut where AFRTS was and got them to let me go on air all nights on my time off from my regular job as a CT (communications technician) on the base. Loved it and yes we did have fans. The board was old - big cumbersome and what I would call a boat anchor. Found out later DJ Bob Kingsley was there when he was in the service and saw where he had actually carved his name in the control board...."
The jury's almost in in the Lieutenant Calley case...
