Joe Allison 1968

  

Joe Allison was a Nashville songwriter and a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame who's credits included "He'll Have To Go" ,"Live Fast Love Hard and Die Young" and many others.  His songs were recorded by Elvis, Tom Jones, Nat King Cole, Ray Price, Eddy Arnold and The Limeliters. He died in 2002 aged 77 from lung disease.

Joe Allison really was country music, starting as a DJ in Texas in 1945.  He went on tour hosting Tex Ritter and got Tex to record one of his songs.  From there, Nashville radio until going to a station in Pasadena CA.  Penning "He'll Have To Go". Later to run the country department of Dot Records.  Starting in the mid 60s Joe was recording the Country Corner for AFRTS.

Joe Allison wrote Jim Reeve's biggest hit "He'll Have To Go".  With a credit like that a lot of performers could coast but not Joe.  Writer, performer, DJ, executive and succeeding every time.  He was a giant.  We lost Joe in 2002.

Joe was an exceptionally successful songwriter, performer, record label executive, producer, and DJ, among other roles. He served as the voice of country music on the AFRTS program "Country Corner" during the 1960s. Charlie picked up the Country Corner after Joe Allison. Charlie was another songwriter/DJ came from KFOX, 1960-72, where he did afternoon drive. Charlie moved to Nashville and built a home on a lake. He managed Bobby Bare and hosted a talk show on WSIX. Charlie passed away in 1995.

Joe Allison brought a lot to country music, writing classic country songs in the 1950s and 60s.  In 1946 Tex Ritter recorded Joe's "When You Leave, Don't Slam the Door".  It was a top five hit.  1949 was his arrival in Nashville with shows on both WSM and WSIX.  Later a very successful recording executive. 

We had Joe in the 1960s.  He brought a one-to-one style which wasn't common in country radio at the time.
