Small World 1964

Small World was similar to NBC radio's Monitor.  Some light music, comedy, features.  It's the program where Chris Noel got her start.  This is from 1964.  Host sounds like George Church

Andy Mansfield 1964

It wasn't really a big band show, it was the oldies from 20-30 years prior. Andy Mansfield did "Turn Back the Clock" with his wife Virginia in the 50s. In the 1960s it had become America's Popular Music. (in the picture, Andy Mansfield, Kay Starr and a REALLY big microphone)

Enchantment of Music 1964

Throughout the years, AFRTS has showcased an extensive array of classical music, often introducing it to listeners for the first time and fostering an appreciation for this timeless art form. "Enchantment of Music," initially broadcast by KCBH-FM in Beverly Hills, underwent significant efforts to transition its city of license from Los Angeles to the more prestigious Beverly Hills. Their broadcasts were known for "the matchless fidelity of frequency modulation," a quality anyone could appreciate. And now, Bruce Wendell...

Jim Ameche 1964

I remember the "beautiful music" of orchestral arrangements, particularly those of pop songs from the 1930s to the 1960s. This music was once the backdrop of grocery stores. The AFRTS has a tradition of broadcasting such music, dating back to WWII. In the 1960s, Jim Ameche took up this legacy. A prominent radio star during the "Golden Days of Radio," Jim pioneered the national syndication of a DJ show.

In 1964, we heard "The Best Sounds Around"

Jim Pewter Christmas In Korea 1964

Jim Pewter with Little Richard and Bumps Blackwell 1966

Jim Pewter sent this along,  Greetings during the Christmas season 1964.  At the time I was PFC Jim Pewter, soon to be SP/4.  I wrote Don French, PD at KFWB Los Angeles and requested the DJs send a holiday greeting to Radio Cavalier, which later became radio tomahawk.

In 1959 Don French was the PD at KDWB in St Paul.  Don added my beta single Little Girl b/w Blue Blue Denims to the KDWB fab 40.

Greetings from, Johnny G, Larry McCormick, Bill Balance, Roger Christian, Gene Weed, Joe Yokum, Sam Riddle.
From 1958-1963 KFWB was the best top 40 station I ever heard.  Later when I returned I became close friends with Roger Christian and co-hosted rock n roll shows with Bill Balance.

Hear Jim every night at 4pm Pacific, 7pm Eastern on the Hook:

Andy Mansfield 1964

Andy Mansfield continues his tribute to MAJ Glenn Miller.  If you didn't already know, Glenn was at the top of his game with one of the hottest dance bands in the country, and was way to old to go in the military.  He did.
