Chris Noel - 1967

The world changes in one picture Chris Noel in Vietnam 1966.  Chris made overseas tours, all over the world pass that much faster on a Date With Chris.  She's dedicated her life to the veteran cause, from going to war zones to running a homeless veteran's shelter today.  Chris, America owes you a lot.  Thank you.

Mystery Playhouse - 1945

AFRS assembled shows from various network shows,  more great material was available that time slots.  In 1944 Mystery Playhouse was generally Inner Sanctum, Mr. District Attorney, Mr and Mrs North, the Whistler and this time This is your FBI. We were running that show well into the 70s.  Today "Robert Perry, Imposter"

Our friend T4Y does his impression of the Inner Sanctum announcer.  He alternated with "Sgt X" (Howard Duff).

A few years ago Clem Stein checked in with a great aircheck. His last "Bouncing in Bavaria" show on AFN. After the service Clem became a very successful businessman and had a book with financial advice. We lost Clem in 2013

Invitation to Learning - 1965

Information and education were the primary drivers of AFRTS.  Quality informative programs from the US networks found a good home.  Easy to imagine a troop taking the time to learn with the "Voice Of Home"

Invitation to Learning was a CBS show that started a quarter century run in 1940. Dr.  Stringfellow Barr of St Johns College in Annapolis brought academics and entertainers to share understanding of complex issues.

It's difficult to determine when we started carrying it, it was running in 1950.

Jim Ameche - 1965

From the archives around the world, the most beautiful sounds around, on the Jim Ameche show.  At the time I think we thought it was exclusively for the Colonels..  It's classy.

I'm going to the library

I spent a lot of time poking through the disks.  The vast majority of the AFRTS library was mediocre MOR and all of the songs that weren't hits from the albums.  But libraries that started in the 40s and 50s and were mostly intact were pretty special.  First time I heard the Glenn Miller AEF band it was from the original WWII ETs.  Over on the country side it went back too.  Sometimes in Panama the jocks would be kinda perplexed at the sort of things I'd listen to.  Great opportunity...

Guess Who - 1944

In the early years of the network, we rebroadcast a lot of stateside shows and created our own "Guess Who" was sort of a reverse request show.  Joan Marshall would play records and the folks at home see if they knew what they were.  Joan was a dancer that later was on the original pilot for the Munsters and was later on a Star Trek.  How many songs do you know?

Adventure Theater - 1976

Announcer William Conrad

We had a lot of great Old Time Radio, repackaged over the decades.  That worked well because in a lot of countries we had radio but not television well into the 80s.  Adventure Theater had the classics.  Today a 1955 show, well calculated to keep you in... Suspense.

There went another PC

The PC I'd been using for the website locked up and died.

Fortunately I had just finished up one I was working on.  So I'm a little behind.  Everything was saved from the old PC hard drive!

If you could throw in a couple of bucks, it'd help...

It's always an adventure.  How was your day?

East Of Eden - 1979

For 30 years Rabbi Allen A Secher did the "East of Eden" Show.  It was light hearted look at Judaism, with interviews and contemporary music.  Today he shows how the music of Chicago is similar to spiritual music.  The Chaplains Board sought out inspiring shows that weren't "preachy".

Unsafe to download?

Microsoft is doing it again:

When you try to download audio on a Microsoft browser, Internet Explorer or Edge you'll get that message.  You will not get that message on any other browsers Windows, MacIntosh or Android Here's the deal.  4shared is a site to transfer files. Our files are hosted there.  Some people share software with viruses.  So when they "share" a bootleg copy of Windows and create havoc on a computer it ends up flagging the site.

Redoing 2500 pages isn't going to happen, even if I did that the files have to be hosted somewhere and the same thing could happen again.

Data files (sound and audio) are safe files.

Microsoft removed the option of getting the file.

AFN - A GI in Germany

In 1962 AFN assembled a portrait of a tour in Germany. It was released as an album, I'd love to know how they did that. It's very well done.  If you ever come up with a spare copy...

This had been posted before but this is a much better transfer.  Thanks Garry!!!

Chris Noel - 1969

The weekend is here and Chris Noel brings the entertainment.  When you think about the importance of the show to troops all over the world it's hard to believe it was only on for a half dozen years.  Seems like only yesterday.
